Christos Gkogkas
Biographical sketch:
Christos G. Gkogkas is a Research Director at the Biomedical Research Institute of FORTH in Ioannina, Greece. His lab focuses on understanding the role of mRNA translation in the brain, uncovering its impact on neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders such as autism, fragile X syndrome, and in neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. With an MSc in Neuroinformatics and a PhD in Molecular Neuroscience from the University of Edinburgh, UK and postdoctoral training at McGill University, Canada Dr. Gkogkas has led innovative research projects funded by prestigious organizations, including the Wellcome Trust, NEURON ERA-Net and HORIZON Europe. His work employs cutting-edge technologies such as multi-omics and molecular/cellular/physiological analysis in human pluripotent cell-derived brain organoids and advanced rodent models, aiming to uncover molecular mechanisms and translate findings into new therapeutic strategies
