Dorota Kurek

Biographical sketch:

Dorota Kurek is a senior scientist specializing in the development and application of innovative technologies in the field of 3D, organ-on-a-chip biological models and stem cell biology. She received her PhD in Developmental Biology at Erasmus University in 2008. After completing her doctoral studies, Dorota dedicated several years to postdoctoral research at the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam and Gent University, where she focused on stem cell biology and the intricate signalling pathways that govern cell fate decisions. For the past 9 years, Dorota has served as the project leader at MIMETAS, a leading biotechnology company specializing in the development and application of organ-on-a-chip technology. Her primary responsibilities revolve around the development of intestinal and liver chips, tissue vascularization, and the advancement of 3D tissue modeling techniques using pluripotent stem cell or adult stem cell organoids derived from human patients. Under Dorota’s guidance, her team has achieved success in the implementation of 3D models across various commercial and grant projects at MIMETAS, as well as through numerous fruitful collaborations with academic institutions. These collaborative efforts have facilitated groundbreaking discoveries and innovations in the field of organ-on-a-chip, leading to significant advancements in physiological relevance of in vitro models.
